A now deleted video of a McDonald’s employee shows a sheer nightmare growing in one of the franchise’s beverage vending machines, prompting a response from the company. The clip was first shared on TikTok and quickly toured, causing a lot of disgust online.
While it was initially thought that maggots had infested the drink dispenser, it was soon discovered that earthworms had infiltrated inside. According to NewsweekThe long pink bodies of the worms filled the drains of the drinks machine on Old Kent Road in London. It appears the worms have somehow moved up the sewers, prompting a full McDonald’s cleanup and a statement to allay fears.
We take cleanliness and hygiene very seriously. Unfortunately, a few weeks ago we were made aware of a problem with the drain serving the beverage station at our Old Kent Road restaurant, ”McDonald’s said in a statement, according to Newsweek. “We immediately closed the beverage station and our hygiene team. identified the cause of the problem, which was resolved before a deep cleaning was performed. “The area was inspected by outside specialists and no drinks were served to customers until we were sure the issue was completely resolved.”
The statement also states that this was an “isolated incident” and that the worms did not represent an infestation in the restaurant. Still, that makes the idea of ordering a drink a bit riskier there. “I saw this the other day. I ordered for my granddaughter from here, but not anymore,” one user commented on the original video.
While this disgusting sight is rare, others want to put customers at ease by noting that they make sure to clean the beverage dispenser every time during their shift. “I work at McDonald’s, I just want to say I clean the beverage area every time I’m on the job so not all McDonald’s are like that, but if they are they need to be shut down because it violates many health codes, ”one user wrote. Not all McDonald’s are created equal, of course.
There is no shortage of employees to share a behind-the-scenes look at food ordering and preparation. Recently, we saw McRib’s frozen house before it reached your hands, and discovered that McDonald’s broken ice cream machines could be intentionally sabotaged.
