MACCIES is popular for its cheap food – but a McDonald’s employee has revealed four top-secret ways to save even more on your order.
A managing director at a Hampshire branch – who wishes to remain anonymous – revealed to The Sun all the little-known tricks you can use to get your order down.
She went from flipping burgers as a crew member to managing a team of up to 40 people.
After three years working for the channel, she knows all about how to save money at the channel.
That’s why The Sun picked his brains for all the insider information on the best restaurant deals.
From shopping around before heading to your local branch to over-sizing your McPlant for just 60p, here are his top money-saving tips.
ALWAYS check prices
Choose your locations wisely – or you might end up paying more for the same meal.
The Sun previously revealed that menu prices can vary between restaurants that are only a few miles apart.
Our research found you could save £57 a year by researching what your cheapest local is by comparing menus online.
You could pay up to 20 cents more for the same item just because of which store you’re going to, the McDonald’s manager said.
“I’ve noticed that sometimes meals can go up 20p more, and burgers can be 10p more at some branches,” she said.
“I find that the price of milkshakes and fries remains the same.”
This is because prices vary from store to store – this is usually due to their location or whether they are run by McDonald’s or a franchise. A franchise owner has the power to set their own prices.
Get meals at half price
There are several ways to get 50% off the price of some of your favorite meals at Maccies.
If you live in London, keep your bus tickets handy. Sometimes McDonald’s vouchers are printed on the back where you can get offers and discounts.
And if you have five or 10 minutes to spare, take a quick channel comment survey. food for thought website.
Pull out your receipt from your previous meal order and look for the 12-digit code printed on it.
You’ll need to enter this code during the survey – when you’ve completed it you’ll receive a voucher to get a Big Mac and chips for £1.99.
It usually costs around £4.79, so you can save £2.80.
Knock 20p on your Happy Meal
Happy Meals can be a treat for kids.
But if they don’t mind the toy included in the offer, you can ask to get the meal without it.
Waiters will discount your order by 20p, the Maccies manager said.
“A cheeseburger happy meal costs £3.09 at our agency. But if you ask for the Happy Meal without a toy you can knock off 20 pence.
“Ask for the box, and we’ll just put the food inside – and that same meal will cost £2.89 instead.”
Avoid ordering meals and instead bulk up
We all have our favorite dish.
Meal deals come with your choice of main snack — like a burger or chicken nuggets — plus fries and a drink.
But sometimes it makes more sense to bulk buy items individually and split them among the family.
An average meal with six Chicken McNuggets costs £5.49. If you have three mouths to feed, that works out to £16.47.
But if you bought 20 Chicken McNuggets for £5.09 – meaning each person gets six each with two remaining – three medium fries at £1.29 each and a medium drink at £1.09 each, you’ll be spending £12.23 in total.
That’s a saving of £4.24.
Mix your McFlurry for 20p
Deciding which McFlurry flavor to choose can be a tricky one.
But there’s a trick you can use to mix up your McFlurries for just 20p more.
“Go to checkout, ask if you can get some extra topping, and most stores will,” the manager said.
“So if you ordered a Smarties McFlurry you can also add Malteaser to it for just 20p.”
A mini McFlurry costs 99p – meaning you could get a double flavor shot for £1.19.
That’s not the only McFlurry trick you can try. A former McDonald’s worker said you can ask for off-menu creations, like putting an apple pie in a McFlurry – an apple pie costs 99p.
