Sheriff Ed Gonzalez spoke outside McDonald’s on Uvalde Road in eastern Harris County, shortly after Martha Medina, 71, was robbed outside the restaurant. After the theft, the suspect hit her with his car and fled, the sheriff said.
Medina was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
“We can do better than steal an elderly person’s purse. Find a job! Said Gonzalez exasperated. “There is no excuse for this.”
The sheriff’s office described the suspect’s car as a black 2017 or 2018 Chevrolet Impala with chrome rims and dark tinted windows.

According to the sheriff, MPs responded to a theft call around 10:30 am at a McDonald’s at 430 Uvalde Rd. It is a restaurant he called a “community center” where Coffee With a Cop events are held. , which connect residents to the police, are regularly organized.
The sheriff added that the victim was alone at the restaurant and parked near the entrance. She may also have tried to get a photo of the suspect before she was beaten.
“Come on! This person came to eat. He had his food thrown on the floor. It breaks my heart. He is someone’s loved one. It is inexcusable,” he added.
