ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) – Last year, many restaurants were affected during pandemic closures, but Jammin ‘Jerk started a food truck. Now its owners have opened a restaurant in the food court at CherryVale Mall.
âWe started right in the middle of COVID last year,â said Jammin ‘Jerk Grill owners Renee and Andre Radway.
âWe made our debut with our truck as a food truck. It worked great in the Rockford area and decided we didn’t want to stop. “
Renée and André run the food truck with their neighbor Laura.
âWe have Jamaican food, him being from Jamaica and me from Chicago, we did a bit of fusion here,â Renee explained. âOf course my experience is more Chicago style fast food, our traditional meal that we serve here is the taste of Jamaica. It is the most authentic dish known in the world.
After seeing success with the Food Truck, the Radways seized the opportunity to open a brick and mortar location at CherryVale Mall.
âLast year we had an overwhelming response via social media, ‘oh no we have to wait a whole year for the truck to come back’ and stuff like that. One day we were walking around the mall and we were like, ‘Do we really want to stop the truck? Or should we see if Jammin Jerk can be something more?’ Said the Radways.
The couple say they can’t wait to see what the future holds.
âThis is definitely not the last stop. I have big dreams for Jammin Jerk Grill. Our ultimate dream is to be a bar and grill, and maybe even a franchise, so that a lot of people can get a taste of what we have to offer, âthey said.
Jammin ‘Jerk will be open during regular shopping center hours, and the food truck will still be on the streets of Rockford.
