Fazoli maintains unprecedented double-digit sales and traffic streak in second quarter

Italian chain QSR posts 13th double-digit sales gain in June, signs eight franchise agreements and opens three new locations in Q2

July 19, 2021 // Franchising.com // LEXINGTON, Ky. – With an impressive second quarter performance, Fazoli’s continues to prove why a recent Stratos Innovation Group survey indicated the company to be the number one value brand in the country.

In the second quarter, the iconic Italian brand broke 138 weekly sales records and maintained its remarkable trend of setting new monthly records with sales and traffic up double digits from the previous year. In June, Fazoli’s recorded its 13th double-digit sales gain with another stunning two-year comparison of 27.7%.

Fazoli’s kicked off the second quarter by driving menu innovation and launching wings across the system in April. In May, the brand added a new snack and shareable item to its menu across all company locations – fried mozzarella cheese skewers – which was made possible by the addition of fryers for the wings. In its first selection, the fried mozzarella skewers obtained the highest Fazoli “intention to buy” score of all the items tested by the brand. The average weekly out-of-the-door impact for business locations was 4-5%, adding over $ 700 per week per location in additional sales. Building on this success, the brand rolled out fried mozzarella cheese skewers throughout the system at the end of June.

In the second quarter, Fazoli’s signed eight zone development agreements to add 22 new locations to its pipeline and opened three new restaurants in Pooler, Georgia; Mary Esther, Florida; and Pikeville, Kentucky. The opening of the brand’s Pooler marked the third opening of new franchisee Jeffrey Milliken in 12 months. The Franchise Business Review “New Rockstar Franchisee” has two other locations slated to open in 2021. Additionally, Fazoli’s Pikeville debut hit the brand’s third opening week record, with sales reaching nearly of $ 95,000 and the team serving over 10,000 fans in the community.

Fazoli’s will continue to grow with six more openings planned in Rome, Georgia; Panama City and Tampa, Florida; Warrensburg, Missouri; Zanesville, Ohio; and Austin, Texas. When Fazoli’s presents its delicious Italian dishes to the Zanesville community, it will be the brand’s first establishment to open in five years.

In addition to the brand’s aggressive growth plans, Fazoli’s will focus on harnessing culinary innovation, technological improvements and new kitchen equipment. The brand will continue to refine its main menu and explore the possibilities of adding options that meet the changing dietary needs of customers, such as plant-based protein and ‘better-for-you’ choices that highlight menu items under 500 calories. Adopting next-generation equipment that will alleviate labor issues and speed up cooking times, such as a new pasta cooking system, is also a key goal for the brand.
